WW1 Veteran: "Peggy", 2021. JACooke

  • First Nation Canadian born Francis Pegahmagabow known as "Peggy", became one of Canada’s most highly decorated Indigenous veterans during WW1. During battle, “Peggy” established a reputation as a great sniper. After a succession of promotions leading to Seargeant Major, he was credited with killing 378 and capturing 300 loyally serving his country for most of the war. He was nominated for the Distinguished Combat Medal for his “faithfulness to his duty”, but was downgraded to Military Medal.
